Adrian's views and further information on CICs are also now available via a 2-part podcast with Dave Dawes at:  (and click to access podcast numbers 7 and 8) and his university has also now picked up on this story and interviewed him about it here.

The Community Interest Company (CIC) – and Adrian's challenge to it!
Given the importance of social enterprise values, it struck Adrian as strange that some of the legislation that relates to the CIC should seem to be forcing those social enterprises who adopt this model to not only potential betray some of their core values, but also lessen their accountability to their communities.
In the autumn of 2006, Adrian therefore challenged the CIC regulator over these rules – and was pleasantly surprised at the outcome: see linked articles (regeneration and renewal 10.06; Social Enterprise 12.06) and 'blogs' at:

Delivering public services and procurement – a poisoned chalice for social enterprise?
Given the hype that's encouraging social enterprise and charities to deliver public services, Adrian argues that the current evidence would seem to suggest that it's a slippery path with many enterprises loosing out on the contracts that are offered so we should be taking a more cautious approach when considering procurement.
